I am so colossally saddened by the news that Stacy is leaving MLS. I'm trying to feel happy for Norman Public Schools, but so far the best I can come up with is a thinly veiled jealousy at what they are gaining. Stacy truly is one of the unsung heroes of the Metro Library System. In the 8 months I've been with the system, I've literally been to almost 30 trainings. It could have been a drudgery, but every single one of them was informative and helpful at least, and professionally transformative at most. Stacy didn't lead all of the trainings himself, but his stamp was on every single one. Nobody has a personality that can command a room quite like Stacy, and nobody can put people at ease and get them to step outside their comfort zones like Stacy. From most people, the words, "Okay, let's all get up and do a TRUST exercise" would be chilling, but somehow when Stacy says it you look forward to the lesson you know will be at the end of whatever he has in store. You know you can trust him, that he will take care of you, as he's been taking care of countless MLS employees for the past 12 years. Stacy was one of the first people I met on my first day, and he became one of my first professional friends in the system. I'm sure hundreds of you could say the same. I've seen him many, many times since, and he's always seemed just as glad to see me as he did on that first day. I can't tell you how many so-so days he has brightened just with his energy and enthusiasm.

This Beyond You salute goes out to a man who didn't earn it from one instance of above-and-beyond service, but through daily exceptional service to his fellow MLS employees - putting others first, and helping us along our paths to becoming better professionals, and better people. For 12 years. As the "helper to the helpers," he has played a small role in every single positive interaction we have had with our members and with each other. He is the SOaP personified. Thank you, Stacy, for your dedication. There will never be another like you, and it is to our great loss that you move along your own path, but you deserve your day as you have helped foster such experiences in so many others. You will rock it, wherever you go. Best wishes! Mark Schuster

Mark, I feel as you do. I can recall the first time I met Stacy, at the staff party for the DN library when it opened, and how quirky I thought he was (sorry, Stacy, it is true!) but soon came to realize how exceptional he is. He can and does command a room!
I served on several committee at OLA with him and he is a true joy to work with. If you're feeling low, Stacy will soon have you feeling happy. I remember when we started doing True Colors - the best definition of Orange is Stacy.
He will truly be missed!

Stacy, you will be so missed.

Stacy, you will be so missed. You deserve a thousand salutes for all you've given our library system. Thank you for being such a positive force and transformational role model for me and for all of our staff.

Stacy, you brought with you the most important element of any job "HUMANITY".
Sadly, this element is gradually fading away in our daily operation and in general. I am deeply saddened by your departure.

As long as we're sharing Stacy stories...

Here is mine: I wouldn't be with MLS if not for Stacy. I was first introduced to Stacy by a mutual friend at OLA, who let him know I was searching for a job. Within moments of meeting him, Stacy immediately went to grab and pull over Emily Canniff (then-manager of The Village), a connection that led to my hire there just a few weeks later. Because of his eagerness to help someone he'd only just met, Stacy created an opportunity for me to begin my career. This is but one example of how Stacy goes above and beyond -- in his service to MLS, in his interactions with others -- and I know that each of us has our own example we could give.

Thank you, Stacy, for all you've done for MLS. I know I'm not alone when I say I'll miss you tremendously.

Stacy Salute

Stacy, I always knew that if you were in a training session the energy level would be over the top!!! That in itself made most of the training bearable! Norman schools will be the perfect place for you to continue spreading your enthusiasm for learning. You will be greatly missed by all of us at MLS!
