Marian Goodwin was born in Sallisaw near the heart of the Cherokee Nation, of Cherokee Indian heritage. She has earned an associate of fine arts degree and is a member of the Indian Arts and Crafts Association. She started exhibiting in juried shows in 1986. Her work can be seen at many annual shows, including in Alva, Enid and Woodward, and also viewed in private collections, galleries and shops across the United States.

Her “Trail of Tears” was purchased by the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, and an original painting, “Shawl Dancer” was purchased by Wilma Mankiller, Chief of the Cherokee Nation. This painting was added to the collection on display at the Indian Health Center in Sallisaw.

In 1993, she was commissioned by the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce to paint the Land Rush of 1893 Centennial Painting. “Staking Their Claim” was reproduced on limited edition prints and note cards. This painting received the Centennial Award at the Fairview Show of the Arts in 1993.

Her “Red Earth Dancer” won first place in painting at the Red Earth Festival in Oklahoma City. This painting was reproduced on the cover of an international magazine.
