Finding it hard to take care of yourself during the pandemic? Feeling anxious, hopeless, unwell? The Metropolitan Library System will be hosting a live stream on Facebook, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m. with several couples and family therapists to talk about how to take good care of yourself during these strange and hard times.
“By taking care of yourself, you are more able to take care of others without depleting yourself,” said Kate Sanders, program organizer and adult librarian at the Village Library. “Proper self-care puts you in a better state of mind to handle the challenges that these trying times are throwing at us.”
Self-care is a skill that takes practice, and is essential to your emotional and mental well-being. Brené Brown cites masses of research that shows the importance of self-care, including allowing ourselves to experience our feelings of vulnerability without shame. Mindfulness experts suggest that we can feel better if we just take 10 minutes a day to practice self-kindness.
"Self-care isn't selfish. It's an ongoing process of nurturing and soothing yourself, building resilience and growing into the person you want to be,” said Sanders. “The practice of self-care looks different for everyone and we're excited to help you find the path that works for you.”
While viewers do not need a Facebook account to view the live stream, having an account will enable viewers to post questions and comments during the stream. If you do not have an account, you can still post a question or comment when you register for the event in the special notes area.
