Friday Could be Your Lucky Day!

Submitted by sadie.bruce on Mon, 08/26/2019 - 08:56

During Labor Day weeked if you visit the Overdrive catalog or hop onto Libby, you might find a rare, in-demand ebook or audiobook that lets you skip the hold line. These titles will be available to whomever gets there first. Once they are all checked out the special collection will disappear until a copy is turned back in.

Here are some common questions about the new collection. A pdf is attached if you want to print or save.

How many Lucky Day titles can a customer borrow at one time? 1 title at a time.

What is the lending period for a Lucky Day title? The customer chooses 7 days or 14 days, just like a regular checkout.

How do Lucky Day titles show up? There will be a curated list of Lucky Day titles at the top of the Libby app and at the top of our OverDrive catalog. All Lucky Day titles have a four-leaf clover signifying the copy is Lucky Day. This means even if a customer comes across a title in a search, they will know they can immediately check it out.

What happens if all Lucky Day titles are checked out? Lucky Day curated lists will be hidden until titles are available to borrow.

Could a customer let a borrowed title expire and then immediately borrow it again? It's possible (but not very likely) that this could happen if the timing lines up, i.e. their loan on a “regular” copy of a title expires, and a Lucky Day copy of this title becomes available at the same time.

If a customer is on hold for a title and checks out a Lucky Day copy, will they remain on hold? No. Checking out a Lucky Day copy of a title will fulfill a customer’s current hold on the title. The customer will see messaging explaining what's happening.

Is there any in-app/website guidance for customers on how Lucky Day works? In both Libby and the OverDrive catalog, customers will see helpful messaging when they're borrowing a Lucky Day copy so that they understand what's happening and why.

I hope our customers and staff enjoy good luck this weekend!
