Incentives to Read (ITR) Minutes - November 7, 2013
Submitted by kbauman on Mon, 11/18/2013 - 12:17
Attendance: Chair: Karen Marriott; LO: Kay Bauman, Julie Ballou, Jana Hausburg (PIE group); OUT: Emily Williams, Anita Roesler, Kristin Williamson; DVS: Heidi Port; PLA: Kellie Delaney; MaC: Kim Terry
Registration Questions:
We reviewed the comments and suggestions that most of us had provided using Basecamp.
We discussed bibliographies that we might want to develop and provide to customers. Topics suggested include:
Staff picks
Hidden gems
Topics that match the Summer Reading themes
Asking for the participant's phone number is important because that number may be used by staff to look up participant's registration if the participant forgot his/her password.
Only valid MLS library card holders will be eligible for the drawing prizes.
We are each to review the registration questions again by November 14, 2013. Then Kellie will develop 3 mocked up forms with the suggested fields for us to review at our next meeting.
Kristin is making a bulleted list of literacy tips that will be included as a link for the early childhood reading site.
We went around the room and each member had the opportunity to identify what do we still need to do for this Summer Reading program and when do we need it completed.
DVS will be giving Karen a report before our next meeting that will provide us information about the status of additional funding we will have for this program.
What will be the process for the drawings?
Will every library have a winner?
What access will volunteers have?
What checks and balances will be in place to ensure a volunteer has done what s/he is supposed to do?
Will the Netbooks be secured to a desk? Or, what will we do to keep the Netbooks & iPads secure when they are on the public floor? Kay will talk with IT.
We need to learn if the teens will have limited access to programs on the Netbooks. Kay will talk with IT.
What training needs to be done for the volunteers? For the staff? Kay will talk with Stacy.
We need to present an update of the Summer Reading program at the Managers of Library Operations meeting, the programmers meetings, the forums for the circulation clerks, librarians and the public computer specialists. Kay will request to be on the December MLO meeting.
Marketing needs to send a request to the libraries on how many materials each will need of the various printed pieces. Kim will get with Emily to complete this.
OUT will need to attend meetings to explain the Summer Reading program, send out incentives, be support for the frontline staff. The adult meeting is February 5, Children's is February 12, YA is March 5.
Decide on whether we want to allow pre-registration and what does that mean? We do want partipants to be able to signup early so that, for example, on a visit to a school students could pre-register. The advantage of this may be that there will be fewer people coming on that first day so the load will be lighter.
