Emily Canniff, current Assistant Manager at the Southern Oaks Library, will begin her new role as the Manager of the Village Library on Tuesday, September 3rd and Todd Podzemny, current Assistant Manager at the Edmond Library, will begin his new role as Manager of the Choctaw Library on Monday, September 9th. The Human Resources Department and Library Operations are now looking for new Assistant Manager of Library Operations for both locations.
Lori also stated for those who weren’t aware. There are 8 retirees this year, and a few pending for next year.
MAC – MAC has submitted three projects for the PRSA Awards (Public Relations Society of America). Kim stated that it is a Public Relations awards ceremony, therefore it was a little difficult to summarize submissions, but Marketing did it. The three submissions were the eMedia Extended Play Commercial, the ‘Share Your Story’ campaign – No Video, and three issues of the MLS Info Magazine.
PRSA is a community of more than 21,000 public relations and communication professionals across the United States, from recent college graduates to the leaders of the world’s largest multinational firms. Their members represent nearly every practice area and professional and academic setting within the public relations field. In addition, there are more than 10,000 students who are members of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. For more information visit their website @ http://www.prsa.org/
The Marketing Department is revamping a produced eMedia commercial on downloading not only eBooks, but free music and magazines with our new services Freegal and Zinio.
September and October are busy months for their department so they are in the process of completing as much as possible before the ending of this month.
MAC has begun working on FOCUS and book sale artwork. MAC is also working on project requests and Staff Recognition items.
Kim teamed up with Midwest City Library Manager Chris Kennedy a few months ago to design a book drop for that location. She reported that it’s coming along nicely.
The MLS truck wrap design has been finalized and Kim is waiting on the call to go ahead and bring the truck to the company to have it put on. Kim is also in the process of getting new logos put on all the MLS trucks.
Materials & Outreach – Out of the Office
Outreach – Dana passed around the Ballet Flamenco Espanol Folklorico Dance Company promoting National Hispanic Heritage Month. The touring company will recognize five provinces of Spain and all 33 states of Mexico by dance, costumes, wooden shoes, castanets and swords. They will begin their MLS tour at the Northwest Library on Saturday, September 7th. They will visit six other MLS libraries ending the tour on September 29th at the Edmond Library. You can visit the MLS homepage for more information.
Dana stated the 2013 Summer Reading totals for week 8 were down from last year totals but she is pleased with the numbers and stated that this was a great year for ‘Summer at the Library’.
Sign up Totals – Week 8
Goal One – Week 8
Goal Two – Week 8
Dana also handed out a photo collogue Mary Sholly put together to show the Outreach Department’s displays and activities at recent events. Each photo had a small caption under it explaining the activity in the photo. Dana then passed around photos from the ‘Day at the Zoo’ event sponsored by OETA and Read Across Oklahoma. Kim Terry showed interest in the photos and may use them in some form of advertisement.
Library Operations & Planning – Kay recently subscribed to the MLS Facebook page notifications. By doing this, she will now receive all new updates/posts from MLS’ social networking page. She is trying to find a way to display this feature for everyone to see, even people who don’t normally use social network sites. Kay read a few posts written by others on the MLS feed and showed to the rest the Ad Team a few pictures that were posted by the Metropolitan Library System.

Finance & Support – Lloyd Lovely gave an update on this year’s ad valorem taxes. The Library had received the valuations just the day before-and it was good news, because the increase was 2.3% higher than last year’s 1.9% and higher than the preliminary budget estimate of 1.5%. More discussion followed, mainly concerning the windfall to the utility companies that last November’s state tax questions gave them with the elimination of the intangible property tax.
Additionally, Lloyd said that the Manager and Assistant Manager of Maintenance positions would be advertised this week. He hopes to fill both positions by the end of September.
Development – Out of the Office
