- Announcements:
- Schools receiving Summer Reading postcards. They are arriving randomly and sporadically. Notify Emily if not received. Emily suggests calling schools again next week.
- Prize packets are being stuffed. All children’s should be complete by this week. Teens’ should be complete by early next week.
- All libraries should have received postcards. Contact Emily if you need more.
- Glen Thomas, a retired HS art teacher, showed samples of his work for possible programming ideas. Emily passed out copies of his resumes.
- Free Comic Book Day was discussed. Consensus was that it went okay. Emily promises that it will be bigger and better next year. Emily announced that Speeding Bullet Comics has a contest for children 12 and under. After reading a comic, the child writes a paragraph about it and brings it to Speeding Bullet and receives a Free DC Kids comic. The contest ends June 30. Emily passed out information.
- Sketch to Screen tickets at the OKC Museum of Art were available for tonight.
- Emily has talked to Maureen Johnson, who is still interested in 2011 Teen Author visit.
- Emily discussed the YA Literature Symposium in Albuquerque. She has received a grant to pay for the trip, so some of us will be attending.
- On the Staff Cheat Sheet for Summer Reading, the flying disk is not one of the Sign-up Prizes. It should be listed on the Children’s Goal 1 prizes.
Break
- Janet Brooks: Janet gave us a handout of correct location codes and asked us to share them with children’s librarians. She said that there are printable Sequoyah labels as well as many other resources on the OLA website. All Sequoyah books should be in.
- Teen Pop Culture Quiz: Kim Edwards wins!
- Emily discussed Sooner Con and Izumicon. The consensus was that we would not participate in Sooner Con but still continue with Izumicon.
- Emily discussed Teen Read Month. The theme is Books with Beat. Librarians should register their libraries on the OLA website. We brainstormed about possible gifts. Suggestions included bookmarks and inflatable guitars.
- Emily reminded us that October programs are due at the end of July.
- We brainstormed about possible sign-up prizes for Bookfest. Suggestions included earbuds, coffee cups, and lunch bags.
- The YA programmers in attendance shared program details, suggestions, and ideas in a quick update about what was going on at every branch.
- Stacy Shrank: Stacy premiered the Summer Reading Training video. Emily passed out Summer Reading posters and Training package.
