YA Meeting

Festival of Books – Emily Williams

  • October 30th  $80 

Writing Camp -- Al Serradell

  • Works with both teens and adults  
  • Encourages them to publish 
  • Each course is two hours, two block workshop 
  • Workshop is around $500 but will work with you 

Introductions

  • Everyone introduced themselves to Cyndi, the new YA programmer at Choctaw 

Summer @ the Library-- Stacy Schrank

  • Passed out materials 
  • The materials are the same as last year only the prizes are different 
  • Summer Reading training is on the internet and can be accessed on library computers 
  • To display the training use the library laptop and projector or it will be burned to a DVD 
  • Everyone, both staff and volunteer, must watch  
  • Janet has a reading list the covers books on metamorphosis 

Volunteers – Heidi Port

  • T-shirts should be arriving soon  
  • Order staff t-shirts now 
  • Volunteer timesheets have changed 
  • To learn about the new timesheets go to “Employee” on the intranet home page and go to “Trainng.” Then go to “Task Guides & Tools” and open Volunteer Timesheet Training 
  • Timesheets needt to be routed and emailed to Heidi twice. Once by June 30th and then by August 1st 
  • Make sure to think about what color your volunteers are and how they can best help.  
  • Be supportive to your volunteers 

Herd any Good Books – Stacy Schrank

  • Promoting audio books for Summer of Reading 
  • Stacy has a sheet to help explain Overdrive 

Free Comic Book Day  -- Emily Williams

  • A rack display seemed to work well for Edmond  
  • Putting the address on posters of participating comic book stores would help direct people to area stores. Teen Read Month – Emily Williams
  • Pass out copies of  “Sucks to be You” to TAG and teens 
  • Possible programs to do include:  
  • Vampire/Zombie sock puppets craft program 
  • Graffiti Art program 
  • Twilight Party 
  • Monster Movies Makeup  

Sharing – Everyone

  • Downtown: Film program went well 
  • Edmond: Wizard Rock coming up  
  • Villiage: Improv Group  
  • Warr Acres: Music video- Myspace is better then your space  
  • Del City: New tables for teen area 
  • Choctaw: Movie night  
  • Belle Isle: Bug cookies, Cupcakes and insect mazes for Summer of Reading  
  • Midwest City: Chess tournament 
  • Ralph Ellison: Poetry slam 
  • Southern Oaks: Photo project
