Message from Heidi: keep sending in hard copies of volunteer applications; call her with any questions; keep plugging away.

Read a Book in 10 Mins

Kim at DN and Kellie are working to create a quick read database.  Programmers can add entries to the database; simple form, just fill in the fields.  The database can be filtered by title/author/keyword/audience.  Brief discussion about the possibility of linking this database to NoveList or LibraryThing.

Public Domain eBooks

Kellie spoke about our new Project Gutenberg resource‐ over 30,000 public domain titles are available through MLS.  She offered some ideas about how to market them to teens: incorporate into book club (one title a year could be a classic); 140 character book reports; sonnet text‐a‐thon; rewrite contest; reading plan with badges; actively promote in schools.

Booktalks

Teresa:  Death Cloud by Andrew Lane‐ young Sherlock Holmes/mystery/neat tidbits from later books incorporated.

Emily:  Discussed available titles for book club kits, details of getting/using them; email or call Emily if you’d like to use one.

Free Comic Book Day

May 7th is Free Comic Book Day; freebies will be routed out starting Monday.  Recommend locating nearest comic book store to your location so you can make referrals.

After School (Art) At Your Library

This Kirkpatrick Family Fund program will likely be added to 4 more branches‐ contact Emily if interested.  CH, VI, and WA had overall positive feedback.

Summer Reading Program

School mailings happening soon‐ let your schools know to expect the packages Weekend of wizard rock‐ 23/24 July at MCStacy reviewed the SRP training video and discussed changes and issues for this year (big thing is change to Redhawks voucher procedures); passed out cheat sheets and pizza boxes.

Sharing

MC‐ Suzette’s tutoring program is coming to fruition.  MAC made an awesome poster to recruit tutors; setting policy is important; watching out for tutors/teens rights.

DN‐ 4th annual I Can’t Believe I Shot That screening on May 15th at 2 pm.  Next one may not be until Nov 2012.  Looking at programming for 20+ crowd.
