Training Times is Back

Learning and Development (L & D) is excited to re-introduce Training Times news updates! If you were around for the original Training Times, welcome back! If you were not, we hope this fresh and exciting news source is helpful to you.

The purpose of Training Times is to keep staff informed on training courses that are available. L & D has released quite a few training opportunities recently and we wanted to put the list of updates all in one spot, so you can refer to this for the latest comprehensive list of training course offerings.

Did you know that L & D also has a training calendar? Yes, the calendar is accessible by simply visiting the Learning and Development page on the Intranet, going to the right side index and clicking the calendar link.

Learning and Development also invite you to contribute! If you know of a local or virtual/online course offering (including lunch and learns, guest speakers, and public events) that the library may be interested in, fill out the form HERE to tell us about it. We are always open to considering new ideas.

So how do you utilize Training Times? You can print it out and post it on the wall in your office for quick reference, view it on the Intranet, or use the table of contents to the right to skip to just the part you need.

Homework

You didn’t think you could get out of homework from a department called Learning and Development, did you? Well, it’s optional but we hope it will help you stay informed on upcoming opportunities for development.

  1. Check out the training calendar!
  2. Check out the course offers and descriptions in this Training Times update.
  3. Complete your 4th Quarter Safety Training by Mar. 31.

Staff have the opportunity to attend presentations on homelessness at four library locations starting Mar. 27, presented by the Executive Director of the Homeless Alliance, Mr. Dan Straughan.

There have been multiple requests to have training on how to provide excellent customer service to the homeless population we serve. Metro recently purchased a webinar by Ryan Dowd titled, "Working with Individuals Affected by Homelessness: An Empathy-Driven Approach". The recorded version of the webinar and all of Dowd's resources can be found in EduBrite.

To help staff transform this knowledge, we are excited that Mr. Dan Straughan, Founder/Executive Director of the Homeless Alliance of Oklahoma will be presenting in person at four metro locations. We certainly wish Mr. Straughan could present at more if not all locations. However, we are trying to be mindful of his current duties and other time commitments. If he is not presenting at your location, we invite you to attend one of the events and bring back the information to your location. Subscribe through EduBrite for the "Homeless Alliance Workshop-ILT"Enrollment instructions are available.
