Training Times - July 2018

Welcome to the July edition of Training Times! There's a lot to celebrate in July, including hitting our goal of 25,850 participants in our Summer Reading program! Over in L&D we are celebrating the August launch of Lynda.com, picking back up on Access Workshops, prepping Collection Development training, and planning for Staff Day in October!

Access Workshops are back!

If you missed any of the Access Workshops earlier this year, please check out the schedule for Access Workshops 1, 2, and 3 below. There will be an offering of each workshop on a monthly basis at different locations as well as evening options. Please note that you must take each class in order - meaning, workshop 1 is a prerequisite for workshop 2, and so on and so forth.

Staff Day Venue, Breakout Sessions, and Keynote

The Staff Day Committee selected the Embassy Suites Downtown/Medical Center as the site for Staff Day on Monday October 8th. Additionally, the breakout and keynote subcommittees are crafting a program full of exciting sessions for staff.  There will be two keynote speakers and 12 breakout sessions. More information to come on keynote and breakout speakers!

New Employee Onboarding Checklists

Access and Engagement new hires are now receiving the Onboarding Checklists when they begin. These checklists allows for a collaborative experience between the new employee and colleagues at their library locations. Click on the links below to view both checklists:

Webinar Opportunity

Title: Getting the Most Out of Library Volunteer Workshops

Location: Northwest Library - Programming Room

Date: July 19, 2019

Time: 1:30 pm

Length: 90 minutes

**Seek Supervisor’s approval before enrolling in the event in EduBrite.**

Volunteers can be great resources for your library—they can provide free talent and experience to your programs and can help get your community more involved in the library. In this 90-minute workshop, learn about all the benefits of having a volunteer program and understand how to overcome common pitfalls of working with library volunteers.

Catherine Hakala-Ausperk, a former library director with extensive experience navigating the staff-volunteer dynamic, guides you through this workshop and teaches you how to launch and maintain a volunteer program. You’ll walk away from this workshop knowing how to better work with volunteers to enhance your library’s offerings and how to grow an effective volunteer program.

Once ALA makes the post recording link available, it will be added to the course and communicated out so anyone that was not able to attend can view the recorded session. The July Commission Meeting is at Northwest Library beginning at 3:30pm. With that said and to help NW accommodate those interested, enrollment through EduBrite is required ~ Webinar: Getting the Most out of Library Volunteer Workshop
