Safety Committee Minutes - July 31, 2024

Items for Discussion:

  • Introductions of members and guests. 
  • Assign committee member to take/post meeting minutes (Mark)
  • Update & Discussion on workers’ compensation injuries (Jeff):  Numbers and more information to come.
    • Group reviewed reports of staff injuries
  • Review and Discuss Completed Quarterly Safety Checklists: Any issues?
    • No major concerns
  • Review Incidents/Accidents. Review these as a group. Any concerns?
    • Group reviewed incidents/accidents. No one saw any issues with the ones reported.
    • Group discussed how when staff are setting up rooms for programs, they should not be moving tables by themselves. They should have someone else there to assist with the lifting of the tables.
  • New Incident form for Incidents/Accidents: We moved forward with posting the new version on the Intranet for everyone to start using. So far, the new version is working well.       
    • Two insurance tracks – one for staff, and one for guests (including volunteers, contractors, vendors, etc.)
    • Staff (worker’s comp) goes to Greg & Jeff
      • More private, HIPAA laws
      • Need to know basis
    • Guest goes to Charisse, Susan, Safety Committee
  • New Safety Checklist Forms for Departments--Ongoing project.
    • No new updates
  • Fire Drills/Evacuation Plans—Ongoing project.  
    • No new updates
  • Drug Use in the Library by Guests—Ongoing project.  
    • No new updates
  • Chemical Inventory Lists—all branches and departments did a great job in completing these by the deadline. We are good with this for another year.
  • Glove use by employees—How do we want to handle this now post-COVID? Is it good practice to continue? It was put in place due to other issues with people not wearing gloves.
    • Guidelines are around two years old

    • Further discussion/updates to come  
  • OSHA New Heat Standard—Sent out some information on this with the agenda. This may be affecting us soon. What are your thoughts on it?
    • Potential for outreach best practices
    • OSHA guidelines are still in discussion/not final
  • Safety Meeting Topic for August/September—What do we want to send out to the managers to discuss?
    • Heat awareness
  • Audits/walk-through: Will be conducting walk-through here today.    
  • Next Safety Committee Mtg.--on Wed. 9/25/2024 @ 2:00pm at Almonte. Final meeting for 2024 will be on 11/20 (at Choctaw).
    • Mark will book room at AL, and invite Library Manager
