Ruby Soutiere of Materials Selection presented a “show and tell” regarding use of BIP online instead of Amazon for verification of materials. Ruby pointed out that by looking at BIP a librarian can tell what the current holdings are in book warehouses. We were encouraged to take this information to our colleagues.
Anita said that this meeting would focus on sharing our programs, as there was a short agenda this time.
BI-Ann is having a Let’s Talk About It series of programs. She mentioned that attendance has not been as large as she expected, but that it is a high quality program. Ann also had a question about meditation programs for adults, as she had had a customer question whether there would be any religious content in meditation or yoga programs.
Dana responded that these programs are presented in the library system as exercise.
DN-Dana commended Darlene for being an outstanding programmer, both for the quality of the programs she has designed for Downtown, and the number of programs she is presenting.. There is a series of programs exploring the Holocaust, such as the one that will be presented entitled ‘The Holocaust and the Book,”, and “the Holocaust and It’s Historical Context” with Dr. Randall Spindle (not an entire list). These lectures are concurrent with the exhibit in the Downtown Atrium “Fighting the Fires of Hate: American and the Nazi Book Burnings”
In addition Darlene will be hosting a Woody Guthrie Day.
CT-Marsha is teaching Spanish and there has been a good response to this.
OUT-Kelly got to attend a family literacy workshop. Having benefited from this information, she is offering her services to librarians to train adults on how to read effectively out loud to young children. Please contact Kelly for more information
DANA-mentioned an African/Brazilian group the will be touring MLS in the fall. Dana will be contacting each library soon about presenting this unusual group of musicians.
DN-Phyllis Davidson talked about her Winter Readfest finale. It was successful. Phyllis is especially knowledgeable about the genealogy database. She has genealogy volunteers at the Downtown library and they are providing help to those customers interested in the.
CH-Sharon will be hosting McEvilly, she will also be having “Sizzlin’ Brains” Old Time Radio Show
RE-Sharon will be having a quilting series that shows the story of the Underground Railroad. Other programming: Free Legal Clinic, a Health Fare and Juneteenth, which is a big fair that is presented every year at RE. Sharon said that this year it will be more traditional, somewhat smaller than previous years.
ED-Jacquie Taylor is the new Senior Programmer and she has lots in store for Edmond Seniors. She has developed a program brochure that enables senior (55+) to give feedback about what they would like. Programs planned so far are horticulture and fall foliage provided by Will Rogers horticultural gardens.
Sunbeam Services will be offering continuous programming for caregiver. She will use the Winterfest list to send out mailings.
Jacquie has submitted a grant request to the Friends for several program series including T’ai Chi, and Chinese watercolor.
She is also discussing a quarterly newsletter for these programs, and talking to people at retirement and nursing homes.
ED-Ronna just hosted Pulitzer Prize nominee Harvey Stanbrough who talked about writing “Flash Fiction
MWC-Anita S. is presenting a journal writing program, basics of investing, internet basics programs taught be Anita. She will be having a string quartet series from the symphony.
DEL CITY had an excellent musician named Anne Cowles. Anne is very knowledgeable about Gypsy music and culture, as well as general music.
Librarian said the audience response was very positive.
Del City is having a Science Fiction book club for adults. Age range varies from lower twenties to upper thirties.
CH Red Cross Disaster prepared, Primavera Festival, Gardening program, computer instruction, tatters group.
Kalyani is moving to Corpus Christi. Our best wishes go with here
DAN—commented about new happenings at the CH library. After other departments move out CH can once again become the people’s library with much more room for the community.

SOUTHERN OAKS Darrie—financial literacy program from IRS
Their library has done a newsletter for about two years. They do outreach to Crossroads Kids Club.
DANA—thinks it is a good idea to have programming librarians working together as teams
ANITA R-spoke about an event at the Areawide Ageing Agency at Cole’s Garden, gave out posters and flyers.
ROSEMARY CZARSKI would like to know about the National Storytelling Festival coming to Oklahoma City. Tim Tingle of Choctaw Road fame will be a participant
EDMOND LBRARY—Carol Hunter, Children’s Librarian, is in need for some easels for June, She will be sending out an e-mail to all librarians soon about this
