Note: A Zoom recording will be available after April 5th for those that are unable to attend an in-person or live Zoom session.

Summer Reading pre-registration will launch  by  May 15 and Summer Reading will begin on June 1.

Below are all the additional details you need to know about this year’s training.

Online Training-Required for All Staff

Who & What

    • Complete the Summer Reading 2024 acknowledgement in MetroU.

Why

  • The purpose of Summer Reading training is to provide the necessary tools and information to staff to help guests, and ultimately, reach our Summer Reading goals.
  • In order to receive state funding (under Title 405. Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Chapter 25. State Aid Grants to Public Libraries), all staff must complete one continuing education credit a year that is not safely training. Metro uses Summer Reading training to fulfill that requirement.

When & Where

  • On April 1 all staff will receive notice from MetroU that they can begin their self-guided online Summer Reading training.
  • Online training for all staff must be completed by April 30.

In-Person Training - Required for Library Management Teams & Staff Hired Since May 1, 2023 (optional for all other staff)

Who & What

  • An additional in-person training is required for Library Management Team members & all staff hired since May 1, 2023.
  • Staff attending an in-person training will have the opportunity to:
    • Take a deep dive into all the various aspects highlighted in the online training video.
    • Receive in-depth Beanstack training.
    • Understand how Summer Reading helps us meet our strategic goals.
    • Ask questions.

Why

  • This additional, in-depth formal training will provide those supervising staff and those most recently hired the necessary tools and information they will need to be successful this summer.

When & Where

  • On March 5 those staff required to attend an in-person training session will receive notice from MetroU that they can register for a training session.
  • Four in-person sessions and a Zoom option will be available (a live Zoom session and an on-demand recording for those who cannot attend any of the live sessions; if you opt to complete the on-demand recording it will be due by April 30).
  • All training sessions will take place in April.
  • On March 18, all other staff who would like to attend an in-person training session can search for Summer Reading 2024 Manager & New Staff Training (REQ) in the MetroU course catalog and register for a session.

If you have questions about any aspect of Summer Reading training, please contact OES ([email protected] [1]). Also, make sure to refer to the resources on the Summer Reading Intranet Page for helpful information, which will go live on April 1.

Thank you for all that you do to make Summer Reading successful every year! You are all greatly appreciated!
