Larry welcomed everyone to a new year at MLS.
LaVetta shared a video with everyone: Empathy vs. Sympathy
There was a brief discussion about the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation’s Read OKC Initiative
The Foundation is seeking donors to develop mobile book buses.
The group discussed possible ways to develop a somewhat less competitive relationship with the Foundation .
Pauline and Anne demonstrated the FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) version of the catalog. This new version of the catalog takes various formats (book, book on CD, eBook, eAudioBook) and combines them under a “trusted” record for display in the public catalog. This should make it easier for customers to find the format they need/want. (See example screen).
Pauline will be demonstrating the new functionality for Library Managers and other groups and the link will be shared with all staff. The library will be working to determine how to train staff and customers and when we will want to move forward offering the new version of the catalog to customers.
Training on finance procedures for the system will be coming for anyone who manages orders or payments for a department.
The group briefly discussed LT members attending meetings of libraries and departments. It is okay but not required and is better to ask in advance or attend based on an invitation.
