EPS wanted to reach out to let you know that we are currently reevaluating our Summer Reading program and its delivery this summer. EPS met today via video conference to discuss modifications to this year’s program and will have more information to share over the upcoming weeks. Below is what we know so far.

Training for Summer Reading  

Training for Summer Reading was originally planned to take place in April. Training is now tentatively postponed until May. EPS is currently working on updating all training materials to reflect modifications to this year’s program. All training will be digital this year. More information will be released to staff once we all return to work.   

Summer Reading Prizes 

Pre-packs of Summer Reading prizes were scheduled to be routed to libraries at the end of April, but this timeline will be updated based on modifications to this year’s Summer Reading program. More information will be shared with staff once we all return to work.  

Summer Reading Programming  

EPS is still monitoring what programming should and will look like this summer. EPS continues to stay in touch with our programming partners at the OKC Zoo, Science Museum OK, OKC Museum of Art, and Arts Council. EPS will keep staff posted as we determine a system-wide programming contingency plan for this summer.  

School & Community Outreach  

School Postcards

Due to school closures, EPS will not be mailing out school postcards to market Summer Reading this year. 

School Library Media Breakfast

Due to school closures, EPS will not be hosting a breakfast for school media specialists this year. 

Marketing

EPS is currently working with MAC to determine ways to retool this year’s marketing strategy. Current discussions include the possibility of sending out a direct mailer to our customer base that would include reading logs and more. More information will be communicated to staff once EPS has a firm plan in place. 

EPS and the School & Community SR Subcommittee are currently in touch with administration from our area school districts and will be sharing information regarding our modified Summer Reading program that can be shared on school portals once it is available.
