We be-leaf you will enjoy 2019 Staff Development Day

Submitted by victoria.stephens on Wed, 08/28/2019 - 15:52

It’s time to fall into a new school year and new opportunities for learning and growing! This year’s staff day is planned with YOU in mind. We hope you will enjoy building together for tomorrow with your fellow Metro Library staff.

Even More Things to Know Today About this Year’s Staff Development Day

1. We have some delicious meals planned.

Staff Development Day includes two meals. Continental breakfast will begin at 8am and put away at 9:30am. This will be buffet style and include assorted breakfast pastries, sliced seasonal fruit, berries and juices, water, coffee and herbal teas. Plated lunch entrees will include baked chicken picatta, herb-crusted seared salmon or quinoa (vegetarian) entrees. Lunch includes a house salad, green beans, carrots and mashed potatoes. Dessert will be assorted cakes.

2. Travel with a friend.

We are encouraging everyone to carpool, so don’t forget to plan ahead and ask to ride with someone! Carpoolers will be entered for a drawing.

3. Staff Development Day training is required for all full time staff.

Please plan to attend all day if you are a full-time staff member. Half/part-time staff are welcome to register to join us, too. If you register and do not show up or miss some of the day, you will be required to make up the training hours you missed.

4. You’re going to have a BLAST building your expertise at these breakouts!

Your Role in Oklahoma's Hard to Count Population: the 2020 Census

The Hard-to-Count include those who are hard to locate, households that may not appear on the census address list or people who may want to remain hidden. Some populations are hard to contact because they are highly mobile, experiencing homelessness or living in gated communities; those that are hard to persuade because they lack trust in the government or the way their data will be used. They can also be hard to interview because of language barriers or low Internet access. Many people fall under more than one of these designations, which is why we are implementing the most robust outreach effort in the history of the Census Bureau.

Understanding Homeless

Homeless Alliance's Director of Community Capacity Building Meghan Mueller will help explain some of the micro, macro, and mezzo causes of homelessness, discuss trauma-informed care,  local statistics, evidence based solutions, and what to do/what not to do when trying to help someone who is experiencing homelessness. Attendees will leave feeling empowered with a list of resources specifically tailored to needs of our library customers.
