UPDATE: As of September 25, LinkedIn informed us that our transition date has been pushed back. We do not have an updated transition date at this time, but will keep staff informed.
On September 30th, Lynda.com will become LinkedIn Learning for customers.
The biggest change in this transition is that our customers will be required to have a LinkedIn account in order to access the Lynda.com library. LinkedIn is moving the Lynda.com information within the LinkedIn environment to strengthen protections around user data, and to provide Lynda users with better tools for managing how their information may and may not be used. All that will be required for the LinkedIn account is the customer’s name, a valid email address, and library card number and PIN. It will be up to the customer to omit or provide more detailed information about themselves on their LinkedIn profile.
Current Lynda.com users’ learning history will migrate once they sign into LinkedIn and connect their library card. As we get closer to the transition date, customers will begin seeing a banner within Lynda.com about the transition and Marketing will be posting about the change to social media.
Much thought and research has been put into the decision to move forward with the transition to LinkedIn Learning and The Collection Development department will continue to monitor its usage and effectiveness to assure LinkedIn Learning best meets our customers’ needs. Please see our staff FAQ [1] and LinkedIn’s privacy page [2] for more information about privacy settings and how to prepare for the transition. If you have any more questions, please direct them to Kristine Magers [3] in Collection Development.
Important: LinkedIn Learning for staff through Edubrite has not changed. Staff will still be able to access Lynda.com courses through Edubrite without linking their LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn Learning courses viewed through Edubrite for work still need to be approved by your supervisor and viewed on work time. If you want to use LinkedIn Learning for personal reasons, you will need to sign in like a customer and connect your LinkedIn profile.
