For more than a year, we have been making preparations for updates to the Village Library. I am happy to say that on January 21st, the Village Library closed to the public as we prepare for a 6 week renovation. Village staff, with assistance from others in Maintenance, IT, and other departments, spent the week packing, weeding, shifting, sorting, and stacking materials to prepare to hand the space over to Caddell and Company.
The full scope of the project includes adding an accessible family restroom in the lobby, chipping out all of the existing pink/terra cotta tile, replacing all the existing carpet, repainting all interior walls, removing the reference and circulation desks and replacing them with modular service desks, replacing the public computer furniture with systems similar to Capitol Hill, installing glass walls to make 4 public study rooms, adding workspace for engagement staff closer to be closer access staff, adding a second self-check, adding a through-wall interior book return, adding new readers lounge seating and updating new book displays.
Village staff will spend the next couple of weeks shadowing other departments or working at other locations until they are able to return to the Village Library.
Demolition has been underway for a little more than a week and what a change it makes. Keep checking back for more progress photos.
