The end of the year is coming! That means it’s time for the Digital Dash [1].

What’s the Digital Dash?

The Digital Dash is a checkout challenge for your library to make 2017 your best year yet in digital circulation. Bring your community together with a shared goal of reaching record numbers in eBook and digital audiobook checkouts. - from Overdrive

Our circulation goal for this year is…..drumroll please……

1,428,858 circulations!

With 1,181,358 we’re already 83% of the way there. We have until December 31st to get the rest. If we hit our goal we could win $500 in credit toward the purchase of new ebooks. Top our goal and we could win $750 - $1,000 in. Plus there’s a Grand Prize drawing for $5,000 to fill holds. That would be a Happy New Year to members lamenting the hold line!

1. Tell one interested member a day about Overdrive [2].
2. Share these great Best of 2017 recommendations from our librarians:
   1. Adult librarian list [3]
   2. YA librarian list [4]
   3. Children's librarian list [5]
3. We need more recommendations! Add your own Best of 2017 book to the list using this form [6]. 
4. Talk up your favorite books – this is probably the best and most effective thing to do; everyone loves being connected to a great book and library people tend to read a lot. Don’t be afraid to share your passion with our members!
5. Share our Overdrive catalog using this link – emedia.metrolibrary.org [2] 
6. Print copies of the How To guides to keep and distribute at the circulation/reference desks and point customers to the location of the guides [7] on the website. Hint: check under Downloads!
7. If a member can’t find a physical copy of a title, check the OverDrive catalog  [2]to see if we own a digital copy, ask the customer if they’ve tried OverDrive, and encourage them to do so by showing them the How To guides.

Talking Points

• UNLIMITED RENEWALS! If there are no holds on an OverDrive title, it can be renewed an unlimited number of times until a hold is placed on it.
• Mention our narrated eBooks for Kids. They're an easy way for your little reader or pre-reader to follow along. Plus, guilt free screen time!
