Is a program the best way to meet the expressed need or present information?:
Does the program fit the goals of the MLS?:
How & why does this program meet the goals of the MLS?:
This program is directly helping to meet our Mission, as we are educating members of the community. In addition, we are reaching out to the community as a whole through an alternate venue. The Crossings Community Center reaches out to those in our community who are struggling through free/low-cost clinics. These are often the community members who need our help the most! By reaching out those who may visit the clinic but not the library, we will also be doing interreach to help reach our goal of every person using a library service by 2035.
Why will this program be successful?:
There is a dire need in our community particularly for computer classes. Many of our regular visitors do not have computers at home (as confirmed by me through regular conversation), and cannot afford one. Yet, they need access to the internet to apply for jobs, apply for benefits, etc. But without a computer at home, they end up unable to complete applications, forms, etc. without significant assistance (which we are not able to provide due to the high volume of visitors we receive at our branch). By offering free computer classes, members will be able to further their knowledge. In addition, I already have a list of 4-5 people who want to be called about the classes, and in addition, I have received many requests for a regular computer class.
How will success be measured/determined?:
Attendance, primarily. Both Crossings Community Center and the Village Library need a certain number of attendees at the classes to prove that the classes are worthwhile. However, attendee feedback will also be welcomed.
