Program Description:
All Sessions
In Africa there is a saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Join us at the downtown library in celebration of National Novel Writing Month! Plan on going far and fast and doing it in fellowship with seven sessions to inspire, inform, and motivate you to complete your novel throughout the month of November. Whether this is your first attempt, or the resolution of your ten-part fantasy epic, come create in camaraderie at the downtown library.
Session 1 - 11/1
Humble Beginnings
Are you a planner? Do you have every aspect of your plot written in a storyboard? Or are you a pantser? Do you write as the words come to you? These are some of the questions we will attempt to answer in our first session. Participants will be provided with writing resources available at the library and given the opportunity to sign-up for NaNoWriMo online.
Session 2 - 11/5
Writing Your Stories
Join us at the Downtown Library to turn your memories into memoirs with The Oklahoma Writing Project. This NaNoWriMo session will focus on turning experiences into stories. The Oklahoma Writing Project’s work as a professional learning community encompasses in-service to schools provided by OWP teacher consultants, professional development for teachers through the summer institute and conferences, and youth, family, and community activities.
Session 3 - 11/8
Inspiration + Perspiration = Success
So, you’ve got the bones of your novel in your brain or maybe even on paper. Your protagonist is slowly inflating from her flat beginnings into a round interesting character, but, like all great writers at their genesis, you are hitting a wall. Join us at the Downtown library for a session dedicated to overcoming writer’s block.
Session 4 - 11/15

Session 5 - 11/19
Write-In
This all day, come-and-go event will open our Route 66 computer lab to NaNoWriMo participants. Get fired up with the friendship of your fellow fledging novelists and stay fueled with snacks and drinks provided by your Downtown Library.
Session 6 - 11/22
The End is Near; act accordingly.
Whether you are at 40,000 words, 400 words, or even just at 4 words, your local librarians will help you develop a plan to hit your word goal before the end of the month. This session will focus on budgeting time to write in the real-world against family, work, school, and any other obligations you may have.
Session 7 - 11/29
NaNaNaNa, NaNoWriMo, Hey, Hey, Hey, Good Write.
This session will be a celebration of the work all participants put in throughout the month. We will be giving out awards, providing resources for revision and publication, and discussing improvements we can make to next year’s NaNoWriMo events.
