Program Description: 
Join us at Bethany Library as we welcome Astronaut Shannon Lucid and celebrate the twentieth anniversary of her mission to Mir. In March 1996, Bethany Astronaut Shannon Lucid launched on her fifth journey into space for a planned four month stay on Russia’s Mir Space Station. Unexpectedly, her scientific research mission in orbit was extended to six months. She returned to earth in September 1996 to much acclaim as the record holder for the most time in space by any American astronaut. Tour the Shannon Lucid photo exhibit that highlights her roots in Bethany and the State of Oklahoma and her career as an astronaut.

This program highlights the library a community center with the opportunity to host an educational event celebrating the accomplishments of Bethany's most famous citizen Dr. Shannon Lucid, one of the United States first female astronauts and one time holder of the American record for the most time spent in space.

Ensure a Welcoming Experience: Visitors are welcomed into an atmosphere of hospitality, exemplary service, and friendly interaction.
Why will this program be successful?: 
The Mission to Mir: Twenty Year Celebration features a compelling subject that will attract positive attention to the library.
How will success be measured/determined?: 
Attendance by our distinguished guest. Anticipate an attendance at this come and go event of about 250 persons.
