Program Description: 
Join with other kids to discuss a great classic or award winning book. We will have a snack, and play a game, make a craft or enjoy a special guest. Our book for this month will be announced on September 20th at the book club meeting. You may call the library for this month’s title. The book themes and reading level are appropriate for grades three and above. Read the book before attending. Reserve your copy early from the library. Some copies of the book will be available at the Information Desk.

The Kids' Classics Book Club provides a challenge to children in middle and upper elementary school to discover books which have stood the test of time and are still regarded as appealing to children today and provide an opportunity for them to share books with their peers in discussion and enrichment activities.
Which Strategic Plan Response/Goals does this program meet?: 
Satisfy Curiosity: Your libraries are centers that offer access to civic, cultural and community enrichment opportunities.
Why will this program be successful?: 
This program will challenge children to explore books in the library collection and broaden their knowledge of literature for young people.
How will success be measured/determined?: 
Goals for attendance are 6 to 16 children in attendance who have actually read the book before attending and who will want to attend additional monthly meetings of the group, potentially read other books by the authors of the monthly selection or other books in the genre of the monthly selection.

Final Comments: 
The Kids' Book Club is counterpart to the Rocket Readers. Children reading at grade level and above are likely to find the book club challenging and enjoyable. Rocket Readers fulfills an equally needed service for children who may need additional reading practice who may be reading below their grade level. Both programs encourage children to make using the library a habit and read more!
