Sports Center

Type of Pilot Project:
Public Service
Describe Project and Impact:
A collection similar to Downtown's Oklahoma Room, but dedicated specifically to Oklahoma sports
Project Description and Expected Outcomes:
This is more of a way to plant this seed for down the road, but to have a room dedicated to Oklahoma sports (I hear college football is kind of a big deal here?). Oklahoma is home to an NBA team, world-class collegiate teams, a AAA baseball club, a rugby team, and hosts numerous other sporting events, from horse-racing to the World Cup of Softball. Recorded interviews with sports legends could be pulled up on a touch-screen display (or, depending on how far in the future this is, a hologram!). I think this would be a big draw, especially if we can get the organizations to be active participants.
Why should we select this project?:
I think this should be kept in mind as we consider building additional libraries--a Sports room, an Oklahoma music room, etc. Oklahoma has such a rich cultural tapestry to draw from it seems a shame to be limited to a single room.
Constraints, Limitations, or Dependencies:
Will need a building to house it, then we'll need to spend some effort and money to have a collection worthy of a dedicated space.
Source of Inspiration:

Cleveland Public Library's "Sports Research Center," which boasts over 25,000 books, magazines, photos, scrapbooks, and autographs and interviews with sports figures.
