Members will be able to check out American Girl Dolls.
Project Description and Expected Outcomes:
Members will be able to check out American Girl Dolls for their children. These dolls and their accessories can be too expensive for many families, yet the dolls remain perennially popular. Each doll would lend with a book that corresponds to the character.
Why should we select this project?:
Dolls can provide inspiration for dramatic play, an important developmental process for children. American Girl Dolls have a prestige and popularity attached that makes them a dream item for many girls, and they tie in with the long-running book series of the same name, encouraging reading. By offering the dolls for checkout, we will provide the chance to experience ownership of one of the dolls, albeit for a limited time period, to kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
Constraints, Limitations, or Dependencies:
Dolls and accessories will be subject to breakage, wear, and loss. Also, ideally the dolls would be cataloged, but I am not sure how we would limit availability to a single region/branch for the pilot period. Perhaps limited cataloging at first, similar to the paperbacks, could keep them in one place.
