Final Comments:
The book club for June will feature an eyewitness to an event that swept our nation beginning 60 years ago and influences our nation still today, as depicted in the Sequoyah Award List book, Kizzy Ann Stamps, the racial integration of the nation's public schools. The guest is retired Oklahoma County Judge Kenneth C. Watson. Mr. Watson's grandfather and mother and father were educators in the separate black schools of Oklahoma. As a school age child, Mr. Watson experienced the transition in Oklahoma from the system of separate schools for the races to the integrated school system. Mr. Watson will participate as a living witness to history. His experiences and those of his family will make the events of our book come to life. Mr. Watson's volunteer application is in process with the department of volunteer services of the Metro Library System.
