Expected Outcomes: To discuss the proposed Southern Oaks Learning and Wellness Center; to discuss the Connect to Compete program and promotion; to discuss and seek feedback on newly created courses that cover the foundational functions for supervisors in our system, discuss and seek feedback on Supervisory Role & Expectations core competencies, discuss and identify the first group of participants who will go through a train-the-trainer process before facilitating future courses, discuss and identify potential implementation timeline; to discuss customer service and staffing impact of proposed holiday schedule.

AGENDA ITEMS

  • Change in personnel (Rogers) – Tim introduced Heather Zeoli as the new Director of Development and Volunteer Services. Heather comes to MLS from the University of Central Oklahoma. Karen Marriott’s last day will be Friday, October 9th.
  • Southern Oaks Learning and Wellness Campus (Terry) – This is a proposed partnership between the OKC County Health Dept., the City of Oklahoma City, OKC Public Schools, UCO, OKC Community College, and Metro Library. A learning center, not a health clinic, is being proposed in an area just behind the Southern Oaks Library. The City-County Health Department still needs permission from the city to build the center. Town Hall meetings will be held to discuss the project on:
    • Saturday, 10/17 - 9:30 a.m. - Wilmont Baptist Church – 6440 S. Santa Fe – 634-0440

    • Monday, 10/19 - 2:00 p.m.  - God of No Limits Ministries – 7200 S. Walker

    • Monday, 10/19 - 6:00 p.m.  - Southern Oaks Community Center – 400 SW 66th – 297-2449

  • Cox’s Connect to Compete Program (Terry) – This offers low cost ($9.95/month) internet services to families who have children eligible for free/reduced school lunches through the National School Lunch program. We will be providing information to customers about the program. Flyers will be given to Metro libraries in order to spread the word on this initiative. Trainings will also be given to staff members who will possibly assist customers with signing up.
  • Supervisory Training Curriculum: MLS 101 Sessions (Schrank) – SUPER GOAL, a special GOAL session for new supervisors that would take place on the Wednesday and Thursday of a GOAL week, was proposed to the Leadership Team. The goal of these sessions is to instill a sense of readiness before encountering issues while on the job. Proposed sessions include: Intro to MLS, Interviewing & Hiring Essentials, Legal Aspects with McAfee & Taft, Crucial Conversations, and Creating a High Performance Team. Stacy asked the Leadership Team for any suggestions for the proposed curriculum. Members suggested adding more detail to the System Funding & Financials aspect, and sections on how to become a Friend of the Library, working with volunteers, and how to conduct business with cities. More information on SUPER GOAL will be provided at a later date.

  • MLS 2016 Holiday and Closing Schedule (Hoffman) – A proposed 2016 Holiday and Closing Schedule will be going to the A&P Committee, then the Commission (November meeting) for review and approval.
