Reading lists for the Summer Reading Program

Submitted by tim.spindle on Mon, 03/24/2014 - 10:45

You may have read about it in last week's minutes from the CONNECT meeting but in case you didn't, we're going to offer adults who are participating in the Summer Reading Program the option of receiving customized reading lists over the course of the summer. When they sign up for SRP, adults can choose a category of interest for which they would like to be emailed a reading list customized for that topic. We need suggested titles for each of the following categories:

  • Hidden MLS Gems: Titles in our collection which might not circulate a lot but are great reads, nonetheless
  • Literary Elements: Titles that tie into the theme of Summer Reading: Literary Elements [1]
  • Sorta-Hot off the Press: Titles published 6 months to two years ago
  • Staff Picks: If I have to explain this one.... :)

We'll send weekly emails of 5-7 titles for each topic so we're looking to create a pool of (at least) 25-35 titles for each topic for the entire summer. Here is the email schedule:

May 23rd - All registered customers (1st batch of lists)

May 30th - Customers who registered just that week (same list from the week before)

June 6th - All registered customers (2nd batch of lists)

June 13th - Customers who registered just that week (same list from the week before)

June 20th - All registered customers (3rd batch of lists)

June 27th - Customers who registered just that week (same list from the week before)

July 3rd - All registered customers (4th batch of lists)

July 10th - Customers who registered just that week (same list from the week before)

July 18th - All registered customers (5th batch of lists)

July 25th - Customers who registered just that week (same list from the week before)

If you've wanted to throw your hat into the Readers' Advisory ring, or you're already an old pro, now is your chance to perform RA for the diverse group of customers who will participate in SRP. If you would like to help create these lists, please email Tim Spindle [2] to let him know of your interest.
