Call to order

Summer Reading wrap up info. All librarians took a SR survey. Some things discussed included:

  • Some librarians feel overwhelmed with the timeline and sign up for volunteers.
  • Teens volunteer duties may change next summer with the switch to online SR.
  • January letters will go out to those the librarians want to “re-hire”. March recruitment for new volunteers begins. May shirts will start to arrive for your volunteers.
  • As far as recruitment goes, most librarians like to pick from customers that come in that they already know. And weekend shifts/some night shifts are hard to fill, as time goes on, you can adjust your advertisement to ask for those specific shifts.
  • We wish all our SRV’s were helpful, cheerful, and ready to learn.
  • All librarians like chocolate and this should be a well represented part of SR.

Kelley from Outreach reminds everybody to make sure you are always sending your forms about your performers to Kelley for the Artist and Performer database. This is important as not just a peer feedback but for security reasons also.

Kristin presented information about early childhood math skills and how they are important. Kristin will work on some ideas for programs and handed out some easy ideas on incorporating math skills into storytime.

Kim Terry talked about the event calendar reminding everybody to check their entries. Try to say what you need to say in fewer sentences if possible, fewer words/bigger impact. When you get the proofs for the calendar, you can just copy and paste the section of what needs fixed, advising of changes needed and including your library in the email so she knows what location you’re at. Please double check all of your entries.

Melissa shared information on the new Playaway Views, most libraries already have these. We are not going to have feature films, plan to stick to kids videos on these devices. Currently ordering more titles for each library.

Darci Parker from Yoga Fairy talked about some yoga classes that can be held in libraries. They actually have yoga for all ages including a mommy and me yoga class. 15 customers would be the ideal max but she says can do any size so talk with her about the max for your location. 30-45 minute classes and she quoted the cost to be $40.00 per class. 405.441.3073  kidzyogafairy.com

Dana- Remember the Grimm fairytales at beginning of October. Melody of China will be the first week in November. For the Spring Fling will have a gentleman storyteller that uses beautiful masks in his stories. Also remember the books for babies, if you want to give a board book to babies, please do. Outreach supplies these so if you need more, let Dana, Mary, or Kristin know! Dana will be retiring in July of 2014.

Emily- there are lots of Teen programs going on in October, some of this may be cross over ages for CSL’s. November we are doing lots of  Catching Fire programs.

They are using punch cards for every time a child attends then awarding prizes (small things like pencils and rubber band bracelets) for repeat attendance. Will have Neil Garrison to the library. Having such a huge response to storytime, that they have had to create more storytimes.
