Facilities Maintenance Related Projects

Downtown Library – The City of Oklahoma City has approved for Orion Security to continue with the burglar alarm project. Installation began on December 11th and is still in progress to be completed later this month.  Information will be forthcoming regarding how this may change or impact building occupants, if applicable.

Delivery Route System – We are currently reviewing the current system in place and have put forward a two-route solution to put in place to ensure we get to every library daily regardless of staffing levels. Please provide any feedback by January 8th.

Del City – We are currently working with Infosys to install a new security system in the Del City Library. The security system will also include two wireless panic buttons.

Edmond – The two new panic alarms have been installed to replace the two previous faulty alarms.

Supplies – We are well stocked after a recent replenishment of PPE supplies. We also have two large pallets of ice melt so we are well stocked should we have any more adverse winter weather this season.

Capitol Hill Library - Studio Architecture is still working on the completion of the new signage for the northwest corner of the building.  Wynn Construction will also be replacing some of the landscaping that did not survive the first two years. The artist has completed the installation of the public art canopy on the outdoor children’s patio.

New Facility Access Control Hardware/Software - Hardware is installed at the New Del City Library, Harrah and Luther Libraries. We are working with Information Technology and Security on the implementation/configuration of these new systems, not yet activated.

Capital Projects

New Del City Library – The general contractor has received final inspection approval and has received the Certificate of Occupancy. Steve is working to receive authorization to begin occupancy. We will need to begin transition of utilities from the general contractor and get insurance in place for the new location on the building and contents. A water drainage issue was identified on the front drive and a french drain system is being installed to prevent future ponding on the drive. Shelving installation and furniture deliveries will begin throughout January 2021.

Belle Isle Renovation/Addition – Demolition is ongoing inside and new foundations and piers for the new additions are ongoing.  Meetings were conducted in December 2020 to review and refine the furniture and space plans.

New Almonte Library – The City Council approved the contract for architectural/engineering and design services for the new Almonte Library on November 24, 2020. The project is awarded to Hornbleek Blatt Architects of Edmond, Oklahoma. The architects and library consultants for Texas will be touring existing libraries January 7, 2021.

Edmond Library Kiosk – The Edmond City Council approved the project agreement for the 24-Library Kiosk to be located at Mitch Park in Edmond at their November 23, 2020 council meeting. The City has committed up to $90,000 towards project expenses. The goal is to have this installed by June 30, 2021.

Ralph Ellison- Window installation is complete. The City of OKC is working on drainage plans for the west side of the building and will wait for sufficient rainfall to evaluate the roofing portion of the project.

Southern Oaks – Window installation is complete. However, we have not completed a walk through inspection and punch list with the city and architect to finalize the project.

The construction for the Southern Oaks Health and Wellness Campus and library sign is in progress. The steel framework is complete and masonry work is ongoing. Signs are in production.

Wright   – Studio Architecture is working to rebuild lost design files and notes for this project, and it is on hold until they recover lost work and are ready to proceed with the production of as built drawings and then the redesign of the interior.

Future Projects – Over the next several months we will be working with various departments/libraries, as applicable, planning how to move forward on several projects in our FY2021 budget to include: Recarpeting Choctaw Library/New Furniture (May require up to a three-week library closure. A separate planning committee will be formed to discuss this project), Community Libraries ADA Restroom Assessment (Working an RFQ to solicit proposals for interested architects), Furniture Replacements at Warr Acres Library, Downtown Library 4th Floor Meeting Room Presentation Boards/Wall Repairs, Wayfinding Signage (Marketing initiative. RFQ for interested architects is under development and will be sent out in January 2021) for Del City, Midwest City, Capitol Hill, Bethany, Village. We project that it will be after March 1, 2021 before any site work commences for any of these projects.
