Reminder: the Friends of the Library want to give to you!

The third and final round of the fiscal year 2020 Friends' Grant Applications will close on January 1st. As a reminder, the Friends have budgeted and pre-approved funds to support the Metropolitan Library System throughout the year. They currently have $65,000 they would like to award MLS before June 30, 2020 - but they need your help. Help them, help you, help our customers!

Overdrive App Phasing Out

Overdrive recently announced their intentions to phase out the Overdrive app. This won’t happen any time soon; there’s no set timeline, but two developmental milestones that will advance the phaseout are adding the ability to import/synchronize wish lists to Libby and making Libby compatible with most accessibility programs and apps.

Required November 2019 Compliance Course - Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion (REQ) November 2019

This compliance course is required by all MLS Staff. It is located in EduBrite and takes approximately 25 minutes to complete (video and knowledge check). There is an Introduction page with full course details.

Open Carry Law

This Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 the State of Oklahoma will allow people to carry a gun without a permit or license (Oklahoma Open Carry Law – HB 2597). This may be referred to as the Open Carry Law or Permitless Carry.

Macmillan Changes Take Effect November 1

On July 25, the publisher Macmillan announced they would be making changes to their ebook lending terms. Beginning November 1, they will only allow MLS to purchase one copy of a new ebook with additional copies allowed 8 weeks after the title’s release. The anticipated outcomes of this change are longer wait times, frustrated customers, and a decrease in access – all things we strive to avoid.
