Database Highlight #14 - We've Got the Underground for That

October is LGBTQ History Month and October 11th is National Coming Out day. Of course, the country wasn’t always so open to a free expression of sexuality and gender. The Archives of Sexuality, this week’s database highlight, is a collection of ‘zines, newsletters, articles, and images from the 1940s to present day.

Amidst the coming candy frenzy, October is Health Month. So with a nod to health awareness, this week’s database highlight is Consumer Health Complete. Members can browse or use the keyword/topic search for books, pamphlets, news, drug information and more.

The next meeting is the Finance Committee Meeting on Oct. 4 at the Downtown Library from 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM.

Register for a Free Health Screening & Flu Shot by Oct. 6

Health Screenings and Flu Shots are available to ALL employees, both full-time and part-time, at no cost to you. The library system provides these services as a benefit of the Wellness Works Program.

Health Screenings take approximately 15 minutes to complete. A health professional will take your blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight, and waist circumference, then administer a quick finger stick blood test.

IMPACT Survey

On Monday October 2nd, we will be launching a public-facing survey to better understand our community and how people use our public technology resources and services. The Oklahoma Department of Libraries has provided access to this tool to all public libraries in Oklahoma.

Survey Says

Hello Friends!

Sadie and I are preparing for our Staff Day presentation and need your help.  We are hosting a database session called, “Database Duel” modeled after the popular Family Feud format.  To prepare our duels, we need your feedback!  Your responses to the survey questions will serve as the answers to our rounds.  Your follow co-workers will have to use their knowledge to guess which responses will get the most points.

Database Highlight #12: We've got the Language for That

This week’s database highlight goes to Mango Languages, the fun language learning database. Choose from 72 languages. Along with a typical language course, there are specialty courses. Of particular interest is the Spanish for Librarians course which includes Obtaining a Library Card, Help at the Reference Desk, Access Resources, What Activities are Happening at the Library, and Job Search.
