- Stacy reported MLS staff had to review scenarios and take assessments after each one. He thinks it’s important to have assessments and making sure that staff knows all the important components. He wonder if we need to try face to face training in the libraries.
- This year (2015), Kristin, Emily and Heidi visited some libraries to discuss Summer Reading changes and updates.
A few months ago Kellie Delaney attended an Evanced Seminar where they introduced their new summer reader product Wandoo. During the demo they announced that Summer Reader will no longer be supported. Issues came up and they changed the original cutoff date from summer 2017 to this summer (2015). Kellie introduced new software options to review, there was a brief description about these options.
LaVetta reported that this schedule will be posted. Drawings during the summer will be weekly, and target a certain audience or activity. Four of the weeks will be physical drawings at the libraries for certain age groups participating in certain activities.
Tickets (that can be requested through the OUT supply catalog) will be handed out and entered into a drawing box. The drawing box should be at the volunteer station to encourage people to sign up for Summer Reading.
Scheduling meeting with DVS to talk about the list of specific drawing prizes
Met with Barnes & Noble to talk about Come Read with Me and also discussed Nooks for possible Summer Reading prizes. Kay mentioned that the library has done numerous trainings for B&N and they should consider donating Nooks to us.
Presented the leftover volunteer gifts as possible “grab bag” goal incentives for adults: bags, mats, book lights, rocks, word magnets, etc. There was a discussion about library space limitations and the best way to use and distribute these items. One suggestion was to move them to the OUT supply catalog for everyday library use, and not as summer incentives. The group decided we needed to find out the numbers involved with these items before continuing.
OUT is compiling items and numbers for our supply catalog and will have a list to Kellie by April 1.
OUT is looking into the possibility of having another School Library Media Specialist breakfast meeting this spring.
April staff reading program will be happening again, focusing on: why we track, why goals and steps are important, “community stakeholders”, that we need to know inventory numbers at all times
