ILS Vendor Visits

On April 21 - April 24, the ILS task force embarked on a 2 state, 3 library system tour of potential ILS vendors. The facilities toured have been recommended by library vendors we are considering for our system. The tour included meetings with staff and seeing how the public access catalog and customer service functions work in real time and space as well as seeing how the cataloging, processing, acquisitions and other ‘back of the house’ functions worked and how it all comes together. These are the systems and locations we visited:
Innovative Interfaces |
Jefferson County Library System’s Lakewood, Colorado location |
Polaris |
Denver Public Library’s Central library |
TLC |
Los Angeles Public Library’s Central and Silver Lake locations |

Several customers have asked for location searches, so it's great that all of the potential systems offer that capability. I really liked the Jefferson County as the location availibility appeared right on the screen without having to take additional steps. I think the customers and staff would really appreciate that.
Looks like some great choices. At first glance, I like the LAPL catalog. It seems very user friendly and easy to ready. That said, I see benefits of each one. Exciting times are ahead!
