School/Public Library Partnerships 

Happy Together: How to Bring Everyone Together for Teen Success 

Guest Speaker: Leah Weyand, Tulsa-City County Library 

Using the ALA Teen Services professional competencies, Leah talked about school/public library partnerships and provided strategies for connection, talked about ways to mitigate barriers, highlighted current issues, and shared specific initiatives and opportunities for collaboration. 

 

Updates 

Winter Reading: Book Bingo – training will start December 1, marketing is in process, Slim Chickens is back as a sponsor, new bingo feature in Beanstack, mug prize for 5 books 

Summer T-shirt Art Contest – winning artwork has been selected for SR23 volunteer t-shirts, the group got a preview 

Garden Tool Lending – health literacy grant through ODL, Jessica has been meeting with key internal stakeholders to develop FAQ 

Mobile Market – have served close to 850 people in first 4 sessions, season runs through March 

Americans and the Holocaust – exhibit will be up January 5 – February 12 at DN, grand opening January 5 at 4pm in Friends Room, community read for When the World Was Ours, call for docents 

 

Sharing and Programming Discussion  

DN – Teen Book Box, Paranormal Fest went well, Geek Con scheduled 

CH – Haunted House had 61 people, Red Planet Day 

BE – big event with YMCA, collaboration with CH on 3D printing for cosplay 

BI – Fall Frolic all-ages festival had 150 people, Dungeons & Dragons 

SO – fan fiction/fan art contest coming back, working with school next door 

DC – 3-year anniversary of D&D group, game nights, Book Drop, Teen Tech Hour, Saturday crafternoon, middle school outreach, lunchtime manga club 

CL – YALSA YA Services Symposium, Pie-a-Librarian to promote Sequoyah book award, Robot Gnome Army, middle school outreach 

RE – Season of Giving program, monthly art program, Trunk or Treat with RestoreOKC had 200 kids, college prep series 

WA – Reading Buddies, holiday cards craft, well-attended escape room 

AL – JoyFest, changing anime club to once a month, degree exploration at US Grant, new Almonte building coming November 2023 

MC – paranormal investigation team, snow globe-making, wood-burning ornament, book box 

VI – monthly take home kit, escape room during fall break 

NW – have had two Dungeons & Dragons sessions – discussion about structure and campaigns, need for DMing 101 training class for teen librarians 

PSA – situational awareness training (in person), guest experiences could roll out between January-March 2023 in BUS/SCR/BE, new learning management system in mid-December, Imagination Library is going strong 

DVS – booksale volunteer recruitment, tour guides needed for AatH exhibit, Leading Volunteers with Confidence class  

MAC – working on graphics for Winter Reading
