Construction Updates - September 3, 2014

GENERAL

  • OKC and MLS are working on a 5 year, OKC Libraries Capital Improvements requests list.  This will include funding for repairs to DN, construction of Almonte and other anticipated needs and other MLS defined needs.   A draft of our requested is to be submitted on 9/10.

BETHANY

  • The City of Bethany continues to take steps towards the funding of the expansion and renovation of the BE library.  Bethany & MLS has begun a dialog about the process of selecting an architect who could help with the campaign.

CAPITOL HILL

  • FYI - CH Program Recap – The program calls for the removal of the garage and the addition of about 9,400 sf feet on the 1st floor.  This would create a library with about 16,800 sf of public space.   The mechanical equipment may be located either in the basement or on the 2nd floor.  Some staff areas will be located on the 2nd floor.  The program calls for; a meeting room which can be divided in two rooms and with a total capacity of 120 people;  3 study rooms; a collection of about 40,000 items (a 5% increase) and a total of 24 Public, 4 Children’s and 4 Teen computers; and something new - 6 Electronic Materials stations. (The Development Office is working to secure a grant for this equipment)
  • MS+R and Guernsey Architects will lead MLS and OKC through our 1st Schematic Design meeting on 9/11.  Several options for the layout of the library will be presented. 
  • The Schematic Design report is due October 3rd.
  • The process of deterring our temporary space needs has started.   The current schedule calls for MLS to start moving out of the CH on August 1st 2015.

DOWNTOWN

  • The Park Avenue 180 Project is out for bid.  The work is still expected to take place next spring.

EDMOND PARKING

  • The City of Edmond has made progress in its discussion with St Mary’s church.
  • Edmond is in the process of conducting a Customers Service Survey.  It is hoped that some questions can be tailored to address library services.

JONES

  • Jones and MLS issued comments on the project outline specifications on 8/11
  • Studio, Jones & MLS met on 9/2/14 to review an updated estimate.
  • Based upon the above reviews and plan comments previously provided, Studio was released on 9/2 to proceed with the final design phase, Construction Documents. 
  • An updated schedule is to be issued on 9/8.
  • Jones & MLS are looking at ways to control the qualifications of the contractors who will be bidding on this project.

NORTHWEST

  • Warranty Work continues.
  • OKC is looking for funding to pay for the repairs to the derrick glazing system.
  • OKC has hired Smith Roberts Baldischwiler to review some of the issued associated with drainage channel.
