CONNECT Planning Committee Minutes for April 2012

Date:  April 17, 2012, 2pm

Location:  Belle Isle Library

In attendance:   Angela Thornton, Barbara Johnson, Susan Hutchins

We talked about subject matter and locations for the remaining dates for 2012.  They are:  June 12th – The Changing Face of Reference (NW); September 11th – Who Aren’t You Reaching? (DC), and December 11th – It Was a Wonderful Year (SO).  All times will be from 2pm-4pm.  

The recap for the March meeting at the Service Center was positive; attendees had positive things to say about the tour and the information received.  Attendance was lower than normal, but that could have been based on many factors such as PLA week, Spring Break, difficult parking at location, etc.

For June, we decided on the topic of the changes taking place in reference services at public libraries everywhere.  Part of the reason for this is that the meeting will be held at NW, and they are instituting several changes to reference services that will be new to the system.  We want librarians to tour NW and observe (hopefully) some of these changes in-action, then we’ll discuss them in groups.

One suggestion put forth was that when we do have a speaker or special event, could the program be recorded by MAC and then posted on the new, improved intranet?  That way others could view it at a later date.  Inquiries will be made as to this possibility.
