Reports

Library Operations (Headquarters) – Candace is continuing to work on the Safety Manual revisions. She started working on the Annual MLS Staff Recognition event which will be held at the Cowboy Hall of Fame again this year. The date is set for Saturday, November 8th.
The Downtown Library new café will open around March 1st. The café name will change to ‘Hemingway Cafe’ and the operation hours will be 6:00am – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Administration / Commission - Donna is working on material in preparation for her meeting with the bylaws committee of the Commission. The Bylaws need to be revised to allow for an Executive or Governance Committee to be added as a standing committee to the Commission’s current structure. Among other things, this committee will set and oversee goals for the Executive Director for approval by the full Commission.

Donna will speak Friday, Feb. 7th to Leadership Northwest at the Bethany Library.

Donna stated the Downtown Library carpeting will begin March 17th. She will have a meeting with Monty Dolph from Bryan’s Flooring on Monday, February 10th. There will be more information to come.

Finance & Support – Lloyd, John Rahhal and Curtiss Ray met with Veolia Energy, the company that provides the Downtown Library with chilled and steamed water. Lloyd reported that a new agreement will be put into place with Veolia Energy at a possible discounted rate.

Information Technology – Anne reported televisions and cable has been installed in most full service MLS libraries. The IT Department is still working on Extensions and the Service Center. Once completed all MLS libraries and extensions will have access to weather updates.

Development – Diane announced the Development Department is assisting Friends of the Library with recruiting volunteers for the library book sale. They have also helped secure additional food sponsors for the book sale.

Diane stated Literary Voices is moving slowly than past years. They are still waiting to hear from the Chickasaw Nation for sponsorship.

Human Resources – Out of the Office

MAC – Kim received notice the Marketing Department won 7 ADDY Awards out of 10 entries submitted. The Annual ADDY Gala will take place at the Chevy Bricktown Events Center on Saturday, February 22nd at 6:00 pm. There will be more information to come.

Kim announced the Marketing Department has a temp helping them with calendar submissions and other Marketing duties at this time. Everything else is running smoothly.

Materials & Outreach – Karen advised everyone to visit the Kids eReading Room on our OverDrive site (http://emedia.metrolibrary.org).  OverDrive designed the page and we were able to make some revisions, such as the library logo.

The Material & Outreach Department is currently working on preliminary FY 2014-2015 budget items.

Outreach – Dana reported she asked Heidi Port to send her an email stating their department need for Friends’ volunteers. Dana then sent it to her 600+ email list and overnight there were 50 new volunteers. Dana plans to do this again the beginning of next week in case some people on her list did not review the email.

Dana announced 1-2-3 Play with Me began at the Northwest Library yesterday (Feb. 4th). This initiative will go on through Tuesday, May 27th at multiple libraries.

Library Operations – Denyvetta stated she worked at Belle Isle Library this week.

Denyvetta passed around a bit of Black History information, written by a Library Aide from the Southern Oaks Library.

Denyvetta announced Angie Paeltz – Extension Specialist for Luther, is retiring; her last day is February 6th.

Library Operations & Planning – Kay and John Wood – Manager of Information Technology has been visiting each library to meet with managers regarding their IT Budget Requests and to discuss the online Summer Reading options. They plan to visit with one last manager this Friday, (Feb. 7th). Stacy is working on Summer Reading Online training at this time.

Kay announced the PIE Committee will meet February 6th.

Kay also stated Self Pick-up of Reserves is now available at all full service library locations.
